DESCRIPTION:e’Sean Jones & KNMDK live featuring special guests the Gabriel Brass Band. \nVisionary Detroit saxophonist\, composer\, and bandleader\, De’Sean Jones has already done more in his 20s than most musicians hope to accomplish by age 50.\nHis music combines the new and the classic sides of jazz which includes Funk\, Hip Hop\, Bebop and Soul. All tastefully worked in. After participating in the DSO’s Civic Jazz program and graduating from Detroit’s High School for the Performing Arts\, Jones studied at Michigan State under Rodney Whitaker. He then attended the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory of Music.\nHis mentors include the great trumpeter/educator\, Marcus Belgrave and the late\, highly regarded Detroit saxophonist\, Donald Walden. He also mentored with electronic music pioneer Mike Banks\, creator of Detroit’s world-renowned Underground Resistance\, who he’s played with for several years now.\nJones said\, “I feel very fortunate and blessed. This city’s mentorship extends beyond the music. They give advice on life matters; they’re life coaches. Beginning with patriarch Narcisse Gabriel\, a bass player whom migrated to New Orleans from Santo Domingo in 1856.\nCousins Dameon Gabriel (trumpet)\, Larry Gabriel (banjo and grand marshal)\, Marcel Gabriel (bass drum)\, Darryl Johnson (grand marshal)\, and a few friends have picked up the baton\, continuing the exciting fun-filled brass band second line tradition in the metro Detroit area.\nThe Gabriel Brass Band honors rich history of New Orleans music while delivering a joyful sound that excites the modern ear.\nThis Motor City music family maintains a living connection to New Orleans family members Charlie Gabriel (Preservation Hall Jazz Band) and Louis Ford maintaining our roots back home in the Crescent City as they all move musically into the future.\nhttps://www.musicpage.com/gabrielbrassband \nThe show will be opened by the Cliff Bell’s Resident Duo (piano & bass)\, from 9:30 to 10:30). DESCRIPTION:Jarrod Champion is a self-taught pianist\, vocalist\, organist\, songwritier and multi-instrumentalist. Born in a suburb east of Detroit\, Michigan\, he’s the son of two working class parents\, both trained pianists. \nOriginally based in rock and roll\, Jarrod eventually spread out into the prominent jazz\, blues and traditional country/folk circuits found in and around Detroit. He has come to identify in large part with early New Orleans jazz\, blues and soul music while retaining the smokey\, bar-room romanticism he’s become known for.\nHe is and has been a member of numerous musical groups in the Detroit area and has toured both nationally and internationally in his career. \nJarrod is an active live and studio session musician and has written music for stage plays\, films and video productions. He also writes and performs original music under his own name\, fronts his own ensembles across many various genres\, and can be found in top jazz\, blues and rock establishments in and around the city of Detroit and beyond. \n(new photo by Jeff Dunn)

Since then\, he has learned to adapt to many styles of music\, has studied theory intensely as well as practiced 16\,862 hours! He was formally introduced to jazz at the age of 14\, which spurred his passion for the genre.
