DESCRIPTION:Mobile since her birth in Singapore\, composer\, saxophonist\, and educator Caroline Davis now lives in Brooklyn\, New York. After making her mark on the Chicago jazz community during her 8-year stint there\, she moved to New York in 2013\, and has proven to be an active leader and sidewoman in the national jazz scene. \nShe has shared musical moments with a diverse group of musicians\, including Matt Wilson\, Ellis Marsalis\, Matt Mitchell\, Randy Brecker\, Bobby Broom\, Greg Saunier\, Ron Miles\, Dennis Carroll\, Erin McKeown\, Allison Miller\, Jenny Owen Youngs\, and Billy Kaye. Aside from her own quintet\, she collaborates regularly with R&B indie band\, Maitri\, and has been a regular member of many outfits including Whirlpool\, Fatbook\, Deep Fayed\, Matt Mitchell’s Sprees\, Billy Kaye Quintet\, Paul Bedal Quintet\, Orso\, Chicago Jazz Orchestra\, Caili O’Doherty Group\, Dion Kerr Group\, Elliot Ross\, Charles Rumback Group\, and Materials and Their Destiny. \nHer debut album\, Live Work & Play\, was featured on All About Jazz’s best releases\, and she was named one of JazzTimes’ Best New Artists in the 2012 Expanded Critics’ Poll. Her second album\, Doors: Chicago Storylines\, was just released as an audio documentary that uniquely sets stories from Chicago’s jazz scene from the 80s and 90s alongside her original music. Doors has brought her much acclaim in recent issues of DownBeat andJazzTimes. \nAs an educator\, Caroline brings her unique knowledge of music and psychology to her teaching\, as she acquired a Ph.D. in Music Cognition at Northwestern University in 2010. DESCRIPTION:Jeff Pedraz is a Philadelphia native bassist\, composer and educator. He is an accomplished musician who possesses both virtuosity and versatility on both the Double bass and Electric bass and has worked in an array of musical situations ranging from orchestral to more modern genres and beyond. \nJeff’s life changed forever upon his introduction to the rich and colorful jazz community in Philadelphia in the late 1990’s at Ortlieb’s Jazz Haus\, which had a house band consisting of jazz masters Shirley Scott\, Bobby Durham\, Mickey Roker\, Arthur Harper\, Sid Simmons\, Mike Boone\, and Byron Landham. Soon after sitting in on various jam sessions Jeff worked his way into the rotation of house musicians and had the opportunity to perform with many artists including Jimmy Oliver\, Cecil Payne\, Sam Dockery\, Trudy Pitts\, Billy James\, Tim Warfield\, John Swana as well as many others. It was at Ortliebs where he received much of his formidable training as a jazz musician.

DJ Nick Austin starts at 8 p.m. and the live band starts around 9:30 p.m. \n  \nAl Bettis is a singer and songwriter from Detroit\, Michigan who started writing and playing guitar late in life at the age of 30. \nIn the summer of 2009 while on vacation and in need of something to kill the boredom\, he picked up an old guitar he had purchased some years before. By the end of that evening a song was born and along with it\, a songwriter. \nAl loved the feeling of digging deep inside of himself to create lyrics to connect with others. It is this passion that drives him today. \nIn summer of 2013 he recorded his first single called “It is Beautiful”. Unsure of how his indie sound would be received he released his single and received amazing feedback. The song shot up the charts on 103.5 the light landing at number 7 in the top 30 countdown. \nAl’s influences include Jason Mraz\, Glen Hansard\, James Morrison\, William Fitsimmons and Kim Taylor just to name a few.

At age seven\, when he later had the opportunity to meet Holmes\, Gerard grew to idolize Holmes. He knew then that one day\, he would play Jazz just like his idol.\nGerard Gibbs\, born and raised in Detroit\, Michigan\, is a product of the Detroit Public Schools. He began his musical training in classical Piano at the age of nine. Although he took to this musical style fairly quickly\, his interest in performing Jazz never waned. In the summer of 1981\, while recovering at home from corrective leg surgery\, Gerard received a surprise visit from “Groove” Holmes. Holmes took an immediate interest in Gerard and began to show him all the “tricks of the trade.” Until Holmes’ death in 1991\, Gerard had the kind of friendship and mentoring relationship with this international jazz organist that others can only dream about. \nhttp://gerardgibbs.com
