The second show starts seating at 9pm.\nMarcus Elliot (Marcus Elliot Miller) is a saxophonist\, composer\, improviser\, and educator based in Detroit\, Michigan. Marcus is a 2020 Kresge Artist Fellow\, awarded by Kresge Arts in Detroit. His compositions and improvisations have been described by the New York Times as “convincing and confident\, evolved in touch and tone…”\, and the Detroit Free Press has said\, “Marcus Elliot represents next generation of jazz”. Elliot leads and co-leads many different Detroit based bands including the Marcus Elliot Quartet\, Clockwork\, Balance\, Beyond Rebellious\, and Lanula. Elliot performs in the Shigeto Live Ensemble. He is a Fellow of the Geri Allen Gathering Orchestra. He co-founded the nonprofit Polyfold Musical Arts Collective. Elliot is the director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Civic Jazz Ensembles. Elliot received his master’s degree in improvisation from the University of Michigan.  \nElliot is a disciple of the Detroit music scene. His mentors include Rodney Whitaker\, Marcus Belgrave\, Robert Hurst\, Donald Walden\, Bennie Maupin\, Marion Hayden\, and Karriem Riggins. After graduating with a bachelors degree in Jazz Studies from Michigan State University\, Marcus began to curate weekly performances in Detroit\, showcasing some of Detroit’s young jazz musicians. Marcus self-released three albums with his ensemble\, the Marcus Elliot Quartet and co-released an album with his duo project with Michael Malis\, Balance. \n As a Sideman\, Marcus has performed with  Bob Hurst\, Karriem Riggins\, James Carter\, Jimmy Cobb\, Marcus Belgrave\, Johnny O’Neal\, Jimmy Heath\, Shigeto\, Thaddeus Dixon\, Ettiene Charles\, Mulgrew Miller\, Rodney Whitaker\, Talib Kweli\, and many others.  \nMarcus was a co-founder of Polyfold; a collective of musical artists who have joined together to develop\, and present creative works. The second show starts seating at 9pm.\nThe Arab Blues traces an innovative trajectory between the call of tradition and the response of the diaspora. The synthesis Rami and Karim create is an auditory expression of not only the power and persistence of il Turath but equally the validity of transformations under the unique cultural conditions we inhabit. \nThe basis of our work is the canon of classical Middle Eastern compositions and improvisational techniques. This rich heritage consists of melodic and rhythmic exposition and instrumental interaction at countless levels of depth. We interpret these forms in the context of the sounds of the contemporary North American metropole. In this project\, the equally lush traditions of Blues and Jazz in Chicago provide the context of how we approach and assimilate the Turath. This marriage of forms is fruitful because of the emotional range of the Blues and the improvisational flexibility and ingenuity of Jazz.

The second show starts seating at 9pm.\n“Lee achieved the principles of truth\, goodness and beauty with his music.” (Filipe Freitas\, Jazz Trail) \nKenji Lee is a saxophonist\, composer-improviser\, and educator based in Southeastern Michigan. \nBorn in Tokyo\, Japan\, and raised in the seaside town of Laguna Beach\, California\, Lee began studying music at an early age and spent most of his childhood immersed in music. He spent a decade learning from the late-great bassist and educator Roger Shew. Lee attended the University of Michigan\, where he studied privately with Andrew Bishop\, Robert Hurst\, Benny Green\, and Miles Okazaki. Upon graduation\, he spent time in both the Detroit & Seattle scenes performing with a wide array of musicians. To name a few: Wayne Horvitz\, Robert Hurst\, Marion Hayden\, Dr. Prof. Leonard King\, Kayvon Gordon\, Andrew Bishop\, Lex Korten\, Jonathan Barahal Taylor\, Andy Peck\, and Estar Cohen. Basement Vibes (2002)\, Scott Gwinnell Trio (2006)\, the award-winning Brush Fire (2008)\, Cass Corridor Story (2011- Detroit Music Factory) and Mulgrew-ology (2018- Detroit Music Factory). \nScott has toured/recorded/performed with the following jazz luminaries: Joe Lovano\, Dizzy Gillespie\, Dave Liebman\, Richie Cole\, Jimmy Heath\, Billy Hart\, Terry Gibbs\, John Clayton\, Steve Turre\, Marcus Belgrave\, and Jon Hendricks\, for whom Scott was three year music director. \nAs a composer/arranger\, Scott has written over 400 works\, from solo piano\, big band\, symphony orchestra\, to marching band. He has received awards/recognition from Downbeat Magazine\, International Association of Jazz Educators\, and Detroit Music Awards\, who have granted him 11 awards over the past 10 years.
