DESCRIPTION:There will be two separate seatings for this performance at 7:30pm & 9:30pm. \nIrwin got his start at the age of 9 when he won a lottery in school and was gifted an alto saxophone. By the age of 11 he was on stage performing professionally and began winning state and national competitions. Irwin attended Princeton University on a full ride to study East Asian philosophy. He learned Japanese and after graduating began work at a major Japanese newspaper in Tokyo. As fate would have it\, he ran into songstress Melody Gardot backstage at the Tokyo Jazz Festival who heard him play and immediately hired him to tour with her band. He quit his job and went on back-to-back international tours as her featured soloist. Soon after he caught the ear of 3x Grammy/Tony Award winning NEA Jazz Master Dee Dee Bridgewater and joined her working band\, honing his skills under the master vocalist on saxophone\, flute\, and bass clarinet.  \nalbum Star People Nation by trumpeter Theo Croker\, and he has toured extensively with Grammy-nominated vocalist Jazzmeia Horn and bass virtuoso Charnett Moffett\, among many others. Irwin now leads two bands of his own\, the Irwin Hall Organ Trio and continues to perform in cities around the world including London\, Tokyo\, Shanghai\, Rio\, Prague\, New York\, Paris\, Melbourne\, and more. \nIrwin’s musical passions also extend into the classroom. He has taught privately and in classroom settings around the world\, including the US\, Japan\, Switzerland\, and China. His experience ranges from private instruction to group classes running clinics on improvisation\, music theory\, and woodwind performance. His international appearances include Waseda University in Tokyo\, Japan\, Happy-Go-Lucky Big Band in Hong Kong\, and the Scuola di Musica Modema in Lugano\, Switzerland\, etc. He has taught at several independent music and charter schools throughout the New York area and maintains a global private music education practice.  \nLearn more about his organ trio HERE!

Playful yet introspective\, his melodic style reflects his love of jazz and hip-hop\, as well as improvised and instrumental elements from Black American Music. He splits his time between an experimental quintet project\, performing dance music around the midwest\, and teaching students of all ages about music.\n \nHis 2020 release Know Better Show Better was nominated for ‘Outstanding Modern Jazz Recording’ for the Detroit Music Awards. Know Better Show Better is a modern jazz/hip-hop compilation featuring his original music and arrangements. Ozay Moore\, Jimmy Smith\, Jon Dixon\, Anthony Stanford\, & Nate Winn were the quintet that made the project come to life.

DESCRIPTION:There will be two separate seatings at 7:30pm & 9:30pm for this performance. \nVincent Chandler is a trombonist\, educator\, composer\, scat singer\, band leader and mentor from Detroit\, MI. While in High School\, Vincent worked with a local Blues and Salsa Band of which flourished into work with Detroit’s local and international heroes\, including Kenn Cox\, Donald Walden\, Harold McKinney\, Wendell Harrison\, Marcus Belgrave\, Rodney Whitaker\, Regina Carter\, Marion Hayden\, Robert Hurst and James Carter. Vincent has performed nationally with Roy Hargrove\, Joe Henderson\, Stefon Harris\, J@LC feat.Wynton Marsalis\, Geri Allen\, JD Allen\, The Oliver Lake Big Band and The Ambrose Akinmusire Big Band. He was a featured artist on the 2009 Playboy Jazz Festival\, where he performed with Marcus Miller\, Herbie Hancock and Keb’ Mo. He was a featured soloist on Roy Hargrove’s only Big Band CD\, called “Emergence.” He earned his Undergraduate and Graduate degree from the University of Michigan. Vincent held teaching positions at the University of Michigan\, Michigan State University\, Claflin University\, South Carolina State University and he is currently a Lecturer of Jazz Studies at Wayne State University and the Director of the DSO Civic Jazz Orchestra.

DESCRIPTION:There will be two separate seatings @ 7:30pm & 9:30pm for this performance. \n* \n* \nAn Ann Arbor\, Michigan\, native and current student at Philadelphia’s Temple University\, Oliver Mayman is a vibraphonist\, pianist\, educator\, and composer. Beginning drums at age 9 and piano at age 13\, the vibraphone was an inevitable discovery as a teenager — the instrument essentially fusing the mechanics of drumming with the harmonic capabilities of the piano. By bringing his array of pianist influences such as Ethan Iverson\, Thelonious Monk\, Oscar Peterson\, and McCoy Tyner and applying their concepts to the vibraphone\, he truly treats the instrument as a piano\, comfortable in every setting from solo to big band. He has performed across Michigan and Pennsylvania\, from clubs like the Blue Llama and Chris’ Jazz Cafe to events attracting hundreds of thousands like the Detroit Jazz Festival. He also has extensive teaching experience\, teaching privately for vibraphone\, drums\, piano\, and music theory\, in addition to being on faculty at vibesworkshop.com\, the largest online vibraphone community in the world.
