DESCRIPTION:There will be two shows at 7:30pm & 9:30pm for this performance. \n(Seatings begin at 5pm & 8:45pm respectively) \n************************************************************************************************** \nGerard Gibbs\, leader and producer of Gerard Gibbs & ORGANized Crime\, conceived the idea to form this group in order to both commemorate the teachings of his mentor\, the late Richard “Groove” Holmes\, and to fully embrace his love for the Hammond B-3 organ and the electric keyboards. He has been playing keyboards and organ for 35 years\, and attributes his accomplishments and overall musical development to the late organist as well as his father and mother\, and the many local and national musicians who worked with him along the way. Gibbs currently leads this band\, and tours nationally and internationally playing piano\, keyboards and organ for saxophonist James Carter.

(Doors open at 5pm for dinner/Seating begins at 6:15p for the first show & 9:00p for the second show) ***********************************************************************************  \nNew York-based pianist\, composer\, arranger and educator\, Caili O’Doherty\, is known\nfor integrating structures of language in both her compositions and her approach to\nimprovisation. Her recent music focuses on the celebration\, preservation\, and expansion\nupon the achievements of unsung women heroes in jazz.  O’Doherty holds a Bachelor of Music in performance from Berklee College of Music and a Master of Music in performance from Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College.  \nShe has received national awards for piano performance and composition from the ASCAP\nFoundation and Downbeat Magazine. Praised by All About Jazz for its “exquisitely forged\,\ndramatic and darkly hued pieces”\, O’Doherty’s debut release Padme (2015) uses lyrics to\ngive the melodies a natural rhythm of language.  Padme was selected as a Downbeat\nMagazine Editor’s pick and received a 4-star review in All About Jazz. O’Doherty has\nperformed at the Kimmel Center\, SF Jazz\, Jazz at Lincoln Center\, Panama Jazz Festival\,\nGuinness Cork Jazz Festival\, concert halls throughout China and UNESCO First\nInternational Jazz Day in Paris\, as well as two US State Dept. supported tours to\nColombia and Togo and Benin in West Africa. \nCurrently performing throughout NYC and touring as a bandleader and side-musician\, O’Doherty also works in the education department at Jazz at Lincoln Center (JALC) as a piano accompanist for the WeBop early childhood jazz education program. She leads educational performances in New York City schools about jazz\, democracy and civil rights as a bandleader for JALC’s Jazz for Young People program. O’Doherty has been a faculty member at the Stanford Jazz Workshop since 2012\, as well as faculty at the University of Wisconsin Madison Summer Music Clinic and Litchfield Jazz Camp. \nIn 2021\, she received a Chamber Music America Presenters Consortium for Jazz Grant in partnership with the Harlem Jazz Museum\, New Orleans Jazz Museum\, and Alabama Women in Jazz Festival to present her newest project\, “Caili O’Doherty: Celebrating Lil Hardin Armstrong”\, featuring her arrangements of compositions by pianist\, composer\, and vocalist Lil Hardin Armstrong. O’Doherty is releasing her second album as a bandleader\, and first release with Posi-Tone Records entitled Quarantine Dream later in 2022\, followed by a U.S. CD release tour.

Prof Washington is also a cluster leader/ HOD (head of department) of Performing Arts\, and a Professor at University of Kwa-Zulu Natal (Durban\, South Africa). Composer & reedsman\, he performs on the flute\, tenor saxophone\, oboe\, and bass clarinet. He also studied other instruments including mbira and hand drums. \nProf Washington is a widely published scholar of black culture and music. His interests include the Black Atlantic\, Afro futurism\, Jazz and other vernacular musics\, Diasporic film and literature. But the reason he plays is to encourage and influence people\nthrough his talents. \nBorn and raised in Zanesville\, Ohio\, Theron currently resides in Akron\, Ohio\, where he is the artist coordinator for Curated Storefront\, artist director at I Promise School\, and the\nfounder and artistic director of the Rubber City Jazz & Blues Festival which takes place\nannually in Akron\, Ohio’s downtown historic district. You can see him regularly performing\nat many jazz clubs and theaters in northeast Ohio. Theron is immensely involved in\npromoting the arts scene in Ohio. \nTheron received an amazing opportunity as he auditioned for and was cast as young Herbie\nHancock in the 2016 released film about Miles Davis\, Miles Ahead\, directed by and starring\nDon Cheadle. \nIn 2019\, Theron released his debut album\, No Concepts. Theron is currently working on his\nsecond album titled “Spirit Fruit”\, which reflects on essential and fundamental\ncharacteristics that bring positive vibes to peoples lives.
