The second show starts seating at 9pm. \nMusicians pay no cover when they bring their instrument. \nA Detroit original\, Noah Jackson is a bassist\, cellist\, and composer specializing in black american music and classical music.  Aimed with a curiosity to where sound could touch audiences from within\, he has both written and performed music for large international audiences since 2010.  A graduate of Michigan State University (B.M.)\, and Manhattan School of Music (M.M.)\, Noah has performed with world renowned artists such as NEA Jazz Master Abdullah Ibrahim\, Branford Marsails\, Jason Marsalis\, The Marsalis Family\, Hugh Masekela\, Nnenna Freelon\, Kenny Garrett\, Wizard Harper\, George Burton\, Jazzmeia Horn\, and Christian Sands. Additionally\, he’s performed in many prominent venues and jazz festivals including Radio City Music Hall\, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola\, Jazz @ Lincoln Center\, Blue Note Jazz Club (New York City and Milan)\, Royal Albert Hall\, Victoria Hall (Geneva)\, Jazz in Marciac (Marciac\, France)\, The Library of Congress\, The Kennedy Center\, SFJAZZ\, The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival\, London Jazz Festival\, Montreal Jazz Festival\, and North Sea Jazz Festival. Noah Jackson also performed as part of the ceremony for the NEA Jazz Masters Award in 2019. He also recorded bass and cello on The Balance with Abdullah Ibrahim which reached #3 on the Billboard Jazz Charts (June 2019).  \nAs a band leader\, Noah had put on performances of original creative work with his band Full Circle. In 2011\, he made his self-produced debut album\, Contemplations- A Suite to critical acclaim and led Full Circle in the Detroit Jazz Festival in 2012. Since then\, Noah has collaborated with a wide variety of artists across the jazz spectrum. In 2017\, he has worked in collaboration with the American Ballet Theater with his string quartet Asè at Grace Farms in New Canaan\, CT. Noah\, along with vocalist and co-producer Candice Hoyes\, were named recipients of grants for a double jazz and string quartet project: Ellington to the World: Generational Power in Black Culture and Spaces from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and the New York Council of the Arts. The work premiered at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in September 2019 and was performed to a sold out audience in The CUBE @ DSO in February 2020. As of March 2021\, Noah has joined Cliff Bell’s in Detroit as Curator and Artist-in-Residence where he will perform with his group Full Circle and host sessions as well as bring in world-class talent to perform on it’s stage. \nNoah is endorsed by Aguilar Amps\, David Gage REAList LifeLine pickups\, and NOAH Guitars of Italy. The second show starts seating at 9pm.\nKeigo Hirakawa Quartet celebrates the release of “Pixel” from Origin Records!  Featuring Hirakawa (piano)\, Rafael Statin (saxophone)\, Robert Hurst (bass)\, and Alex White (drums)\, the Quartet explores original compositions written by the band members. \n \nOver the period of 20 years as a professional jazz pianist and 7 full-length album appearances (3 as leader)\, Keigo Hirakawa has transformed himself from a student of the jazz masters to an artist with vision and unique sense of expressions. Though his engagements may include jazz clubs to music halls and jazz festivals\, he takes the time to contribute to his home music scene through mentorship and appearances with up-and-coming talents. The jazz piano trio he leads is well-known throughout the Midwest for their willingness to be musically spontaneous on stage\, exploring original compositions and redefining jazz standards to make it their own. Sought after for his articulate use of harmonic and rhythmic vocabulary and his leadership style on the bandstand\, Hirakawa can be heard throughout the US and internationally.\n

The second show starts seating at 9pm.\nMarcus Elliot (Marcus Elliot Miller) is a saxophonist\, composer\, improviser\, and educator based in Detroit\, Michigan. Marcus is a 2020 Kresge Artist Fellow\, awarded by Kresge Arts in Detroit. His compositions and improvisations have been described by the New York Times as “convincing and confident\, evolved in touch and tone…”\, and the Detroit Free Press has said\, “Marcus Elliot represents next generation of jazz”. Elliot leads and co-leads many different Detroit based bands including the Marcus Elliot Quartet\, Clockwork\, Balance\, Beyond Rebellious\, and Lanula. Elliot performs in the Shigeto Live Ensemble. He is a Fellow of the Geri Allen Gathering Orchestra. He co-founded the nonprofit Polyfold Musical Arts Collective. Elliot is the director of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra’s Civic Jazz Ensembles. Elliot received his master’s degree in improvisation from the University of Michigan.  \nElliot is a disciple of the Detroit music scene. His mentors include Rodney Whitaker\, Marcus Belgrave\, Robert Hurst\, Donald Walden\, Bennie Maupin\, Marion Hayden\, and Karriem Riggins. After graduating with a bachelors degree in Jazz Studies from Michigan State University\, Marcus began to curate weekly performances in Detroit\, showcasing some of Detroit’s young jazz musicians. Marcus self-released three albums with his ensemble\, the Marcus Elliot Quartet and co-released an album with his duo project with Michael Malis\, Balance. \n As a Sideman\, Marcus has performed with  Bob Hurst\, Karriem Riggins\, James Carter\, Jimmy Cobb\, Marcus Belgrave\, Johnny O’Neal\, Jimmy Heath\, Shigeto\, Thaddeus Dixon\, Ettiene Charles\, Mulgrew Miller\, Rodney Whitaker\, Talib Kweli\, and many others.  \nMarcus was a co-founder of Polyfold; a collective of musical artists who have joined together to develop\, and present creative works. Founded in Detroit\, Polyfold produces concerts and recordings\, hosts outreach events and educational workshops\, and fosters creative community in Detroit and beyond. \nMarcus has received his Masters of Music degree at the University of Michigan\, where he was awarded a graduate assistantship. The second show starts seating at 9pm.\nThe Arab Blues traces an innovative trajectory between the call of tradition and the response of the diaspora. The synthesis Rami and Karim create is an auditory expression of not only the power and persistence of il Turath but equally the validity of transformations under the unique cultural conditions we inhabit. \nThe basis of our work is the canon of classical Middle Eastern compositions and improvisational techniques. This rich heritage consists of melodic and rhythmic exposition and instrumental interaction at countless levels of depth. We interpret these forms in the context of the sounds of the contemporary North American metropole. In this project\, the equally lush traditions of Blues and Jazz in Chicago provide the context of how we approach and assimilate the Turath. This marriage of forms is fruitful because of the emotional range of the Blues and the improvisational flexibility and ingenuity of Jazz.
