SUMMARY:Ben Rolston Quartet
DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES ARE AT 7:30PM & 9:30PM FOR THIS PERFORMANCE.\nDoors open at 5pm for dinner. Seating begins at 6pm for “Dinner & a Show”. The second show starts seating at 9pm.\nFeaturing:\nMarcus Elliot\, sax\nMichael Malis\, piano\nJon Taylor\, drums\nBen Rolston\, bass\nBrooklyn based bassist / composer Ben Rolston is an accomplished and compelling performer in an eclectic range of musical styles. Ben has performed with important musical voices like Marcus Belgrave\, Laurence Hobgood (Kurt Elling)\, Tim Ries (Rolling Stones)\, Dwight Adams (Stevie Wonder)\, and Nick Dunston. Ben has also performed at some of the finest venues and festivals in the country\, e.g. The Detroit Jazz Festival\, The Newport Jazz Festival\, The Ambria Jazz Festival\, Birdland\, The Stone\, The Green Mill\, Jazz at the Bistro\, The Jazz Gallery\, The Blue Llama\, and The Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe. \nBorn in Ann Arbor\, Michigan\, Ben’s young musical curiosity and talent were honed by the teachers and musical culture of Ann Arbor and Detroit\, leading to his matriculation at The University of Michigan to study with master musicians such as Robert Hurst and Geri Allen. Immediately after graduating in 2012\, Ben released his debut album Fables. It features 10 original compositions and was described as “full of grandeur and dissonance” and “find of the week” by Dave Sumner (eMusic Contributor). Shortly after the album release Ben was one of sixteen young jazz musicians from around the country handpicked to be a part of Ravinia’s Steans Institute Program for Jazz (Chicago). While at the Institute Ben had the privilege to study with jazz legends Rufus Reid\, Curtis Fuller\, David Baker and Nathan Davis. \nMoving to Detroit after graduation sparked a period of intense growth and musical activity. A talented and close-knit peer group led to established bands\, regular gigs\, a flurry of recordings\, and the founding of Polyfold Musical Arts Collective\, a non-profit musicians advocacy group. Some of the most fruitful work came from Rolston’s relationship with Marcus Elliot and Michael Malis\, who together are described in Mark Stryker’s book Jazz From Detroit as “among the most compelling Detroit jazz musicians of their generation.” \nDuring this time Ben was also touring the country with The Appleseed Collective\, an Americana band playing bluegrass\, western swing\, and jazz manouche influenced original music. In 2016 the Alex Levine Quartet\, of which Rolston is a long term member\, participated in a month-long residency program in Switzerland through the UNCOOL Festival. This has led to 3 records\, 3 tours in Europe\, and a short film about collaboration between American and Italian musicians. Another important musical connection was made through pianist Tad Weed to a group of his like-minded students\, leading to Ben’s joining two bands (Talking Ear and the Estar Cohen Project) and eventually performing at the 2018 Newport Jazz Festival with ASCAP prize winning artist Estar Cohen feat. Fabian Almazan. \nSince moving to NYC in 2017 Rolston has presented three new bands: Brasfas (a small brass band influenced by Balkan Music and Ornette Coleman)\, Quartet Quartet (an improvisational adaptation of Philip Glass string quartet no. 5)\, and Qualia Quartet (modern jazz featuring Oud). He performed in the premiere of Nick Dunston’s La Operacion at Roulette Intermedium\, and has maintained a monthly concert series with Polyfold featuring some of the best improvisers NY has to offer.

SUMMARY:Brass Queens
DESCRIPTION:ADVANCED TICKETS ARE NOW AVAILABLE\nDoors open at 4pm for dinner and a show. Seating is based on a first-come-first-serve basis. We recommend reservations which will be available on September 1st.  The Brass Queens will perform at 7pm and 8:30pm.\nWSG: The Detroit Party Marching Band  (5:30pm to 6:15pm)\n“The Brooklyn\, New York based\, eight-piece female brass band\, the Brass Queens deliver the sounds of New Orleans\, where the brass band tradition originated\, to the Big Apple via their Royal St. EP. The six song instrumental EP floats by like a paddle wheel steamer on the mighty Mississippi.”\n— Rock the Body Electric \n“Brass Queens band\, a New Orleans-inspired all-female band\, blasted out bright\, buoyant tunes… ”\n— New York Times \nBrass Queens is a New York-based brass band that is female-led and features an all-female horn section. Finding that they shared similar frustrations about the emerging brass band scene in the city\, co-founders Alex Harris and Ally Chapel came together to form a group dedicated to showcasing the talents of female musicians in a landscape that was dominated by male musicians and bandleaders. \nAfter debuting in March 2019\, Brass Queens grew to be a fixture in the New York music scene and was even dubbed “the hardest working band in town” by their peers. The Queens gained a dedicated following through busking on the streets of Brooklyn and playing pop-up events in tight-knit communities. Even the pandemic couldn’t slow them down\, as the band found ways to still bring music and joy to their fans during quarantine. Since then\, Brass Queens has gone on to play iconic venues like Blue Note Jazz Club and Brooklyn Bowl\, as well as major events like The Met Gala\, Governor’s Ball Music Festival\, Exit Zero Jazz Festival\, Good Morning America\, and more. \nBrass Queens has developed a signature sound that sits right at the intersection of the Big Apple and the Big Easy: their music is deeply inspired by and pays homage to the New Orleans brass band tradition while injecting the upbeat\, multifaceted energy of their New York home into each performance. The result is a nonstop party: a Brass Queens show will have you singing along to classic pop hits\, dancing your heart out to reggaeton\, and feeling like you’ve been transported to Frenchman Street. In February 2021\, Brass Queens released their debut EP Royal Street on all streaming platforms\, and on October 27\, 2023 they released their first full-length album titled Black & Gold.

DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES ARE AT 7:30PM & 9:30PM.\nDoors open at 5pm for dinner. Seating begins at 6pm for “Dinner & a Show”. The second show starts seating at 9pm.\nMake A Reservation Here\n“…a Jazz Drumming Prodigy…he is a powerhouse behind the kit!”\n– The Dallas Observer \n“A musician who acknowledges the pioneers of jazz while challenging the idea of what the genre is and can be.”\n– Okay Player \n“Mike Mitchell’s drumming is deadly and deep\, yet inextricably entwined with the album’s intense production.”\n– Modern Drummer \n“Mike Mitchell is the definition of drum chops\, and he can go from zero to 60 in the blink of an eye.”\n– Drum Magazine \nBlaque Dynamite\, a.k.a. Mike Mitchell\, has given validity to the cliche that age is nothing more than a number. He began drumming at age 2\, played in his first live recording session at the ripe young age of 7\, and had acquired a roster of drum company endorsements by the time he turned 11 years old. \nYoung Dynamite gained his early development and exposure to music in a church setting. At an early age\, he began to create his own music which in turn fueled his relentless passion and respect for the drums. Inevitably\, he had become very interested in the pursuit of expanding his knowledge of music and honing his craft. At twelve\, he embarked upon the study of music theory. At fourteen\, he found himself in the hallways of the renowned Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas\, Texas in 2009. The school also fostered the amazing talents of Norah Jones\, Erykah Badu\, and the late Roy Hargrove. Simultaneously\, Dynamite took full advantage of attending workshops\, master classes\, and clinics at colleges and universities all over the country during the summer breaks between tours. \nBeing gifted to play all genres\, Dynamite has been the recipient of a host of accolades and prestigious awards. He has received 14 DownBeat Music Awards and his impressive performance credits include Grammy award-winning artists Christian McBride\, Erykah Badu\, Thundercat\, Michael McDonald\, Bob Mintzer\, Chrisette Michele\, Kamasi Washington\, and the legendary Clark Sisters.  In 2012\, he was selected to perform on a global stage at the inaugural International Jazz Day Celebration with one of the most influential artist of all time\, the iconic Herbie Hancock. Shortly after\, Dynamite was reigning the drum throne for the living legend\, virtuoso bassist\, composer\, Stanley Clarke. Then\, he graduated high school! (Class of 2013) \nFast forwarding\, the Grammy nominated artist Blaque Dynamite has toured five of the seven continents of the world. In 2015\, he released his debut album entitled “WiFi” with Dallas-bred band\, Raché. His collaborations with artists such as Christian Scott\, Derrick Hodge\, Doobie Powell\, Kierra Sheard\, Willow Smith\, Talib Kweli\, and Jon Bap have been the catalyst in the making of a new band leader. \nOn April 10th\, 2020\, Blaque Dynamite released his third album\, “Time Out” on Dolfin Records\, an independent record label out of Dallas. \nwww.blaquedynamite.com
