DESCRIPTION:Showtimes are at 7:30p & 9:30p for this performance. \n(Doors open at 5pm for dinner/Seating begins at 6:15p for the first show & 9:00p for the second show) \n************************************************************************************************** \nJason Janas is an artist and musical technician dedicated to honoring the great American art form of tap dance. Regarded as one of the hardest working tap dancers of his generation\, Jason credits his work ethic to his New Jersey roots and the mentors that guided him along the way.\n \nHe began his tap dance instruction under Ms. Deborah Mitchell and was the first charter member of the New Jersey Tap Ensemble. It was there that he found a love for the dance and his insatiable quest to study and master the art form. His journey led him south where he became a member of the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble under the direction of Gene Medler. From there\, he was cast in his first professional role as member of Tapestry Dance Company in Austin\, Texas\, under the direction of Acia Gray\, and spent five years as a principal dancer.\n \nThe exposure Jason received led to an invitation from the incomparable Derick Grant to join the cast of his show\, “Imagine Tap!”.The show ran for six weeks in Chicago and changed his life. Other show credits include “Souls of our Feet” with Tapestry Dance Company\, “Wonderland” with Sara Savelli and Ayodele Casel\, and as a co-choreographer and featured artist in “Tap Stars” European Tour with Rasta Thomas.\n \nJason finds great joy in passing along his experience and teachings to the next generation and has held faculty positions at tap festivals and workshops in New Jersey\, New York\, Los Angeles\, Boston\, Chicago\, Charlotte\, Austin\, Detroit\, San Antonio\, Vancouver\, Zurich\, Curitiba (Brazil)\, Moscow\, London\, Paris\, Odessa (Ukraine)\, Tokyo\, Barcelona\, and Germany. Jason currently resides in the Metro Detroit area with his wife and daughter. He is a faculty member for Radix Dance and co-owner with his wife\, Bianca\, of The Foundation House dance studio\, and founder/producer of Hoofin’ Ground tap festival\, and W.O.R.K.\, an advanced tap intensive.\n \nHe is dedicated to enhancing and building the tap dance community in Detroit and submersing himself into the  city’s deep Jazz and tap dance roots. He is proud and thankful to partner with historic Cliff Bell’s for his introduction to the Detroit jazz scene.

Rivera is known for his muscular tone and unique blend of straight-ahead jazz fused with music inspired by his Latino background and heritage.  \nRivera has several credits to his name as a recording artist\, composer and arranger. His newest solo project Indigenous was released in 2021 on Posi-Tone Records. According to executive producer and label co-owner\, Marc Free\, Indigenous “…explores the ‘Indigenous’ multi-cultural roots of our human family…”. Indigenous climbed to #7 on the JazzWeek Radio Charts. \nHis debut release on Posi-Tone\, Connections\, quickly gained attention when it hit the JazzWeek Radio charts as the “Highest Debut”. Rivera’s first recording\, Hercules was released in 2006 on his record label\, Rivera Records. His sophomore release\, The Contender (D- Clef Records 2013) received national critical acclaim reaching the Top 10 on the JazzWeek Radio Charts.  He has also appeared on several recordings as a sideman on the Posi-Tone\, Mack Avenue and Detroit Music Factory Record Labels. \n

Early on he studied with established jazz figures Yusef Lateef and Beans Bowles and was playing gigs with Donald Byrd and Wynton Marsalis before he was out of high school. Throughout the ’90s\, 2000s\, and 2010s\, Harding toured\, performed\, and recorded without pause\, collaborating with countless names in both jazz and pop circles that included everyone from the Marshall Allen-led Sun Ra Arkestra to work with David Lee Roth. \nHarding was born in 1967 in Detroit\, Michigan. After hearing Grover Washington\, Jr. as a kid\, he took up tenor saxophone\, eventually switching over to baritone in high school. Though sax was his primary instrument\, he would occasionally double on bass clarinet. He was already performing regularly around Detroit in his teenage years while studying with local jazz greats. By his early twenties he was performing internationally. He left Detroit for New York in the early ’90s\, joining Julius Hemphill’s Saxophone Sextet and performing around town with Lester Bowie\, Frank Lacy\, Hamiet Bluiett’s Baritone Group\, the Mingus Big Band\, and many others. He also took part in shows and festival appearances with the Sun Ra Arkestra and the Roy Hargrove Big Band. He recorded multiple albums with longtime friend pianist Lucian Ban\, including 2002’s Somethin’ Holy and a 2008 collaboration between the two friends and Romanian electronic musician Silent Strike entitled 3am. In the late 2000s he joined the Broadway production of FELA!!! both in New York and on tour. He eventually returned to Detroit\, but stayed incredibly active in the studio and on the road. Harding and Ban reunited in 2019 for another collaborative album\, Dark Blue. \n
