SUMMARY:Ben Rosenblum
DESCRIPTION:Award-winning jazz pianist\, composer and accordionist Ben Rosenblum has been described as “mature beyond his years\,” (Jon Neudorf\, Sea of Tranquility)\, and as an “impressive talent” (C. Michael Bailey\, All About Jazz)\, who “caresses [the music] with the reverence it merits” (Bob Doerschuk\, Downbeat Magazine). Ben is based primarily in New York City\, and is a graduate of the Columbia-Juilliard program (in 2016). His original music combines his extensive knowledge of the history of jazz with a free-wheeling\, modern melodic sensibility and powerful narrative approach to the piano. His profound passion for jazz\, swing and world music genres finds expression in his unique fusion of harmonic and rhythmic elements from a wide array of sources\, and gives rise to a signature compositional sound and style at once iconoclastic and deeply rooted in such figures as Bill Evans and Wynton Kelly. Ben’s first priority in his composition and in his playing is always narrative – to tell a compelling story with his music\, while reaching the hearts of his audience\, connecting on an emotional\, an intellectual and a spiritual level. \nReviewers of his debut album Instead – released in 2017 with bassist Curtis Lundy and drummer Billy Hart – have been impressed by his musicality and his tasteful playing in light of his immense technical skill. Bob Doerschuk of Downbeat Magazine gave the album four stars\, and wrote\, “He has the chops to shoot off a few fireworks\, … but that doesn’t seem to be a priority when covering sacred material.” C. Michael Bailey notes approvingly: “there do emerge conservatoire aces with grit in their imagination and a facility to express such in their playing. Ben Rosenblum is one such performer/composer. The Julliard-Columbia trained pianist brings a freighter of technique to the keyboard\, while still maintaining enough earthiness in his playing to satisfy even the fussiest listener.” Fred Stal of RG Magazine most recently described his experience of listening to Ben’s live CD release performance: “The music keeps you on your feet and not wanting to miss a single moment of magic. … Raindrops from heaven poured down with style and grace from Rosenblum’s piano.”

SUMMARY:DAVID THOMAS & CO
DESCRIPTION:David Thomas is a multi-instrumentalist\, bandleader\, composer\, and educator from Rochester Hills\, Michigan who performs mainly in the Metro-Detroit area. He sings and plays a wide variety of instruments which includes the piano\, Rhodes electric piano\, organ\, trumpet\, piccolo\, flute\, melodica\, and glockenspiel. David’s musical foundation began as an infant because his mother continually filled their home with music from a wide variety of artists and genres\, many of which she took him to see in concert. Eager to learn how to play the piano\, he began taking formal lessons at the age of 7. For 6th grade band class\, he was “fit” with the trumpet and hasn’t put it down since. \nTurning down scholarships from other universities\, he was hopeful to study with the legendary Rodney Whitaker at Michigan State University and was delighted when he was accepted into their Jazz Studies Program. It was there that David formed his first jazz groups\, DTQ (David Thomas Quartet) and The Funtet. He graduated from MSU with his Elementary Education Degree and his Minor in Music. With a desire to learn other instruments\, he taught himself to play the piccolo and the flute. While the piccolo can be an uncommon instrument to hear in a jazz group\, David has found a way to incorporate its sound into his jazz renderings. \nCurrently\, David entertains his audiences with his variety of instruments and vocals while performing solo\, with his own jazz group\, DAVID THOMAS & CO.\, and with other stellar musicians such as RJ Spangler\, James O’Donnell\, Sheila Landis and Rick Matle. He has a deep passion and love for jazz history and is a bit of a jazz nut\, always hungry to learn more.

SUMMARY:Roger Jones & Higher Calling
DESCRIPTION:Roger L. Jones II is a native of Flint Mi.  Since 1989 he has worked professionally with various artists in the USA\, Japan\, and Turkey.  Roger discovered his musical abilities when he was a youngster at church.  His gospel background provided a spring board to his passion for playing jazz music.  The church Greater Holy Temple COGIC where his father is pastor\, was like a musical battle ground for young musicians.  Roger cites his non- gospel influences as Miles Davis\, John Coltrane\, Herbie Hancock\, and McCoy Tyner.  After graduating from high school\, Roger attended Oberlin Conservatory in Oberlin Ohio.  While attending Oberlin\, Roger’s understanding and musicianship grew exponentially.  Many performance opportunities were afforded\, and his reputation grew.  Since this time\, Roger has performed and “sat in” with various musical icons associated with jazz and other musical styles.  Some of these individuals include Wynton Marsalis\, Joe Henderson\, Wallace Roney\, and JJ Johnson to name a few. \nRoger has developed into a cutting-edge band leader.  His band\, “Roger Jones & Higher Calling” is comprised of phenomenal musicians dedicated to inventing fresh and innovative ways to approach the execution of music.  Mixed with a soulful and modern approach\, the music of this band is innovative\, relevant to the current generation\, and swings ridiculously hard.  There is no doubt that Roger L. Jones II will be heralded as one of the most explosive and innovative pianists of his generation.
