Cedric Easton is a New York based drummer, composer and organizer from Columbus, Ohio. A self-taught percussionist, Cedric’s foundation for music and community building began in the black Pentecostal church. After spending formative years playing local church services and concerts, Easton won a regional competition at age 8, which eventually lead to his playing professional gigs at the age of 12. After playing with various national gospel artist including Jonathan Nelson, Dorinda Clark Cole, Detrick Haddon, Easton was selected to participate in a summer initiative with jazz trumpeter, Pharez Whitted; this was the turning point in his musical interest and community engagement.

Easton’s dedication and desire to explore jazz and various forms of music took him away from his hometown, and on the road as the principal percussionist for Christian Howes for ten years. During his time on the road, Easton performed with acclaimed artist and composers such as Jeremy Pelt, Rez Abassi, Joel Harrison, JD Allen, and Richard Guilliano. During this time, Easton received honorable mention in Jazz Times (2012), won the statewide Guitar Center Drum Off (2013), Triple Croxx Artist Signature Series (2014), and received first commissioned work from The Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center (2015); which lead to the release of his first single, entitled “Inspire Me” Easton was also commissioned by the Maroon Arts Group to co-create and direct the multi-disciplinary performance, “Black Staccato” (2015 – 2016). Additionally, Easton self released a music video entitled “Tears” (2018) and most recently featured in a docufilm, “Legacy: Jon Irabagon A Tenor Odyssey” (2021).

Meanwhile Easton gained administrative, teaching, and organizing skills while working in his local community. He was hired to work as the Director of Fine Arts at New Covenant Believers Church (2006 – 2016), a teaching artist with the Jazz Arts Group (2010 – 2015), and lead facilitator with the Young Men’s Christian Association (2012 – 2015).

Most recently, Easton was recruited to work for the prestigious Jazz at Lincoln Center based in New York City, New York (2016 – present) Easton serves as the Associate Director of Outreach, while maintains an active performance schedule with Lonnie Plaxico, Miriam Elhajli, and his band Cedric Easton & Circle of Friends.
