“Juarez – Lee – Alvarez” is an explosive young trio dedicated to bringing the jazz masters of the past to the present with personal authentic relevance as a continuum. Formed in 2016, the band consists of Kenji Lee (saxophones/compositions), David Alvarez III (drums), and Brian Juarez (bass). Drawing inspiration from the famed saxophone trios led by Sonny Rollins, Warne Marsh, Joe Henderson, Ornette Coleman, and more, “Juarez-Lee-Alvarez” seeks to uncover and extrapolate the idiosyncrasies of the jazz tradition. They have performed/studied with jazz luminaries such as Benny Green, Robert Hurst, Carl Allen, Ingrid Jensen, Bennie Maupin, Marcus Belgrave, and Ndugu Chancler. The trio recently embarked on a successful West Coast tour, and is currently preparing to release their debut record as a unit.
