Detroit Jazz Festival Foundation – J.C. Heard JazzWeek@Wayne presents:

Ali Jackson “Brings the World Home” in his first Detroit Jazz Festival presented by Quicken Loans performance as a bandleader. Feature set begins at 7 p.m. with the J.C Heard JazzWeek@Wayne open jam session kicking off at 8 p.m. Cover charge is $10 with free admittance for J.C. Heard JazzWeek@Wayne students and their families.

Jackson immediately became one of the world’s most sought-after young jazz drummers upon graduation from Detroit’s Cass Technical High School. As principal percussionist and drum chair for the acclaimed Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra for over a decade, Ali was the heartbeat for Wynton Marsalis and the JLCO and performed with nearly every major jazz artist of his era. In addition to helping define the sound of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra for more than a decade, Jackson holds the distinction of being the first percussionist, composer and arranger to demonstrate mastery across the entire spectrum of musical styles. Now leading his own band, Jackson brings his highly sought after, unmistakably powerful swing to the intimate trio setting.
