Visionary Detroit saxophonist, composer, and bandleader, De’Sean Jones has already done more in his 20s than most musicians hope to accomplish by age 50.

His music combines the new and the classic sides of jazz which includes Funk, Hip Hop, Bebop and Soul. All tastefully worked in. After participating in the DSO’s Civic Jazz program and graduating from Detroit’s High School for the Performing Arts, Jones studied at Michigan State under Rodney Whitaker. He then attended the prestigious Oberlin Conservatory of Music.

His mentors include the great trumpeter/educator, Marcus Belgrave and the late, highly regarded Detroit saxophonist, Donald Walden. He also mentored with electronic music pioneer Mike Banks, creator of Detroit’s world-renowned Underground Resistance, who he’s played with for several years now.
Jones said, “I feel very fortunate and blessed. This city’s mentorship extends beyond the music. They give advice on life matters; they’re life coaches. When I’m out there playing, I’m actually representing all of the people who have endorsed me.”

Mike Mitchell aka Blaque Dynamite began playing the drums at the early age of 2. Since then, he has learned to adapt to many styles of music, has studied theory intensely as well as practiced 16,862 hours! He was formally introduced to jazz at the age of 14, which spurred his passion for the genre. By the age of 17, he had performed/toured with Kamasi Washington, Chrisette Michele, Derrick Hodge, Gerald Clayton, Antonio Hart, Spirit Fingers (formerly known as The Polyrhythmics), Seven Davis Jr., The New World Order, and the legendary Stanley Clarke.
