RJ Spangler & Tbone Paxton a bring band with a twist: in addition to their usual mix of Fats Waller, Louis Jordan as well as New Orleans trad jazz and funk, they will throw in some gems from South Africa and the cosmic master, Sun Ra. So everything from blues to the Great American Song Book to modal jazz, all on the eve of the Detroit Jazz Festival.
The septet will feature a front line of Goode Which III & Dan Bennett on saxes & Tbone on ‘bone & vocals, plus Matt LoRusso on guitar, Jeff Cuny on bass, Sean Permutter on drums and RJ on congas and percussion. A cosmic jazz party.
