Known for his bluesy authenticity and soulful virtuosity, California born bassist Sam Copperman is a natural talent and hardworking professional. He began playing bass at 8-years-old, and started his career playing for local jazz and rock groups by the time he was 15.
In 2008 he left the coast behind for East Lansing, Michigan to study with renowned bassist Rodney Whitaker. During his time at Michigan State University, he earned his bachelor’s degree in jazz studies in 2012 and a Master’s in 2015. In 2014 he joined the legacy of jazz ambassadors touring internationally as a member of Anthony Stanco and the Crucial Elements. He currently lives and works in Detroit.
