Marcus Elliot is a saxophonist/composer/educator of the Metro-Detroit area who is quickly gaining recognition for his imaginative improvising, and fervently thoughtful voice on the saxophone. Marcus has been playing professionally in the Detroit Jazz scene where he is studying, practicing and composing the music you will hear every Tuesday night.
On this evening, Marcus will welcome Prof Vincent Chandler, Director of Jazz Studies at Clafin College in South Carolina. He has toured with Jazz at Lincoln Center, featuring Wynton Marsalis, The Roy Hargrove Big Band;Joe Henderson, Geri Allen, Marcus Miller, Herbie Hancock, Roy Hargrove, and James Carter. Mr. Chandler can also be heard on James Carter’s latest recording called “James Carter Organ Trio at the Crossroads.”He is featured on “Requiem” of Roy Hargrove’s only Big Band cd, “Emergence.” He is featured on “For Garrison” of Carl Allen & Rodney Whitaker’s, “Work to Do,” and his most recent personal recording is called “Embraceable.
