Trumpeter Jimmy Smith and saxophonist James Hughes of Detroit are joined by New York trombonist John Yao to form a co-led ensemble. They each are band leaders in their own right, but set all that aside to collaborate on this 2019 recording.
It was the music that brought them together.
Besides fresh and intriguing improvisers, they are formidable composers with
ample portfolios. After hearing each other on recordings, they knew that their
sounds would meld and that their compositions would blend to make a distinct and
